In September 2020 Google CEO Sundar Pichai committed to operating Google's data centers and offices on entirely carbon-free energy every hour of every day by 2030 — moving past the annual renewable-energy-matching approach the company achieved in 2017.
“By 2030, we aim to be the first major company to operate entirely on carbon-free energy 24/7 — at all of our data centers, on all of our campuses, all around the world.”
